A manufacturer part number is a unique identifier assigned by the manufacturer for a specific product or item. In Data Connect, the manufacturer part number is used to accurately identify and track medical and clinical supplies across various information systems, such as contract management.

Standardization
Manufacturer part numbers are standardized based on GHX survivorship rules. This means the manufacturer part number in GHX can vary from a manufacturer's catalog or website.

Considerations
Many manufacturers have multiple, different databases for their master catalog. This makes it hard to determine which set of product information is best, as these data sets often vary, such as in online catalogs, FDA's AccessGUDID submissions, Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs)-fed data, and others.
GHX uses a combination of AI-based learning and survivorship rules to determine the best value when multiple iterations exist in the marketplace.
Once a value has been validated for a manufactured item, it's recommended in Item Recommendations, even if it might differ from what's on the item's physical packaging.
The main purpose of a manufacturer part number is to help connect and match product information across different databases.
If the GHX-curated manufacturer part number for an item is different from the provider manufacturer part number, then it's shown in Item Recommendations.
For EMR (Electronic Medical Records) integration, make sure data is loaded from the ERP to the EMR, and not from Data Connect to the EMR. It's recommended to load two sets of manufacturer part numbers, one with special characters and one without, to a downstream EMR field, such as EPIC External IDS, to reduce the likelihood of one-time supply charges.
